Using Slope to Graph a Line

Students learn to graph a line using a given point and slope by first plotting the given point, then taking the given slope (rise over run) from the given point, plotting a second point, and connecting the points with a line. Students also learn that the x-intercept is the point where the line crosses the x-axis, and the y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis. And if the given slope is an integer, such as 5, it can be thought of as 5/1, so that it can be read as rise over run.
