The OAT, or Optometry Admission Test, assesses whether applicants to optometry education programs have the required knowledge and skills to be prepared for rigorous study. Scores on the OAT test are accepted by all optometry schools in the U.S. and some schools in Canada. The four-part test is administered at testing centers at any time of the year. The OAT exam is directed by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry or ASCO.

The OAT consists of multiple-choice questions presented in English, and is comprised of four tests. The first is a Survey of the Natural Sciences (Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry), the second is Reading Comprehension, third is Physics, and the fourth is Quantitative Reasoning.
