San Jacinto College is a community college located in Pasadena, Texas which is near Houston.  The college consists of three main campuses and many extension centers.  The Central campus is in Pasadena and the North and South Campuses are in Houston.  Two of the extension campuses are in Webster, TX.  Two are in Galena Park, one is at Clear Lake High School, and one is the Technical Training Center.  The Maritime Technology and Training Center is in La Porte, TX.  The college awards certificates and associate degrees in many programs.  It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges.  Approximately 27,911 students attended the college in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The college has an open admission policy which encourages anyone who wants an education to apply.  High school transcripts or GED documentation should be submitted with an application.  The GED and HiSET exams may be taken on campus in the testing center.  International students who apply to the college must have a valid student VISA.  Proof of proficiency with English is required and may be documented by submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores.  The Accuplacer ESL test may be taken on campus.  Credit by examination is awarded and can be gained by taking certain CLEP exams.  Students who enroll in degree programs are required to demonstrate college readiness as stated in the Texas Success Initiative Policy.  For this purpose, scores on the TSI Assessment are necessary unless students are exempt.  Certain scores on the SAT or ACT tests can earn an exemption as well as TAKS or STAAR exam scores.  Finally, veterans may claim an exemption to the TSIA.

The college offers programs in logistics and maritime trade as well as classes in emergency medical technology.  The Central and North Campuses house the Nursing Program.  This program has classes for students interested in vocational nursing as well as registered nursing.  The school offers pathways programs for students to work from LVN or paramedic to the associate degree nursing program.  There is also a pathway for associate degree nursing program graduates to transfer to the University of Houston at Clear Lake to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  Students enrolling in the degree nursing programs must submit transcripts reflecting at least a 2.5 average in pre-nursing coursework as well as scores on the HESI A2 exam.  Completion of the ADN program allows a student to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam or NCLEX-RN.  Many other programs are offered in the field of health science.  One such program is in Radiography.  This program also has a competitive admissions process.  Students must take and pass with no less than a C, courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, college level English Composition and College Algebra.  The HESI A2 exam is also required.  For students entering the field of education, the college offers the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree as well as the Associate of Science in Child Development/Early Childhood Education.  Students who wish to become licensed teachers must transfer to a four-year institution to complete their bachelor’s degree as well as other requirements such as state teacher exams (in Texas the PACT or the TExES subject area exams are necessary).
