Johnson & Wales University is a private institution that prepares students for specific careers. The main campus is located in Providence, Rhode Island. The campus in North Miami, Florida opened in 1992 and the Campus in Denver, Colorado in 2000. In 2004, the Charlotte, North Carolina campus was opened. The academic courses of the university are divided into six colleges. The New England Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited the university which has an enrollment of about 8,563 students in both graduate and undergraduate programs.
Applicants to the university must provide high school transcripts or a high school equivalency certificate. The university does not require SAT or ACT scores unless a student has been home-schooled. However, the admissions office recommends remitting test scores if available. For students who may need to document that they are fluent in English, the university accepts scores from the TOEFL exam and the IELTS test. The Pearson Test of English (PTE) will also be accepted for this purpose. Placement tests are given in Mathematics and Writing. The university uses the Next Generation Accuplacer tests. Students might also need to take a modern languages test or the Accuplacer ESL test.
The Culinary Arts program is the most renowned at the university. However, the school originally started with business and hospitality courses. The food service program is one of the largest in the world. The university also offers a variety of degrees and courses of study. The School of Business offers degrees in fifteen different programs. The Master of Business Administration degree is also offered. The College of Health and Wellness offers three different bachelor’s degree programs – Health Science, Public Health, and Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. A master’s in physician assistant studies is also available. The School of Education in Providence offers masters programs in education to those who already hold a teaching certificate or to those who wish to enter the field but hold a bachelor’s degree.
