Linear and Quadratic Relationships

Students learn that a linear relationship, such as y = x + 1, can be written in the form y = mx + b, and is represented by a straight line. Students learn that a quadratic relationship, such as y = 12x^2 4x 5, can be written in the form y = ax^2 + bx + c, and is represented by a parabola (a U-shaped curve). Students also learn to identify given situations as linear or quadratic relationships.
